Tribal women endure many hardships. The daily work of the Turkana women is physically challenging, building and repairing the houses, fetching firewood, fetching water, cooking for the family, raising the children, walking for hours to and from the market once a week, and dealing with the hardships of climate change. Yet together they find strength and deep happiness in their friendship.
As I watch them walking in harmony through the serene landscape on their way to the river to fetch water, I can’t help but think that although their life is more physically harder than most, their spirit of community is much richer than most.
