The warriors of the Rendille wear beautifully ornate necklaces. Each design is specific to the warriors within a clan and to a time in history (the age set that a young man enters after circumcision). The necklace thus identifies his group and places him in the chronology of his tribe. A tribal elder can look at a warrior’s necklace and immediately know his age and clan. Feathers complete the look, which is meant to signify that the wearer has gone through the rite of passage from boy to warrior.
